15 Tips to Voicemail Survival

1. If your goal is to get the phone call back, DONT leave information that would allow the person of their minds. Add a call to action to your message by a key date or something interesting that encourages the person to return the call. You must create a reason for them to remember.

2. Repeat your phone number twice. If the person cannot write quickly your number, you've given a perfect reason not to recall.

3. Avoid asking the person to ask you back at a certain time. This gives them an excuse not to call you.

4. Not the state in the message you intend to repeat them. Again, this only gives the person an excuse to ignore the message.

5. Messages left on a Friday afternoon are the least likely to be returned. For most people, Monday mornings are very busy and, therefore, only high priority activities to attract their attention.

6. Do not leave voice messages at odd hours of the night. Most voice systems provide a time stamp and the person who hears the message will immediately think you really do not want to talk to them.

7. The best time to leave voice messages are 6:45 a.m. to 8:00 et 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.. Aggressive people are usually working during these periods, and the person receiving your message could consider you as one.

8. To wisely use the time zone changes to make as many calls as possible during periods of optimal voicemail listed at the anterior end.

9. Voice messages are a great way to introduce yourself to someone. Be personable and professional, and a link between your message to something interesting to the person you call (as another person or an event). The recipient can see your message as a waste of time if you have no other purpose than to get your name in front of them.

10. When you leave a message with multiple points, make sure you know immediately how you will. This will prevent the recipient from accidentally fast forward or delete it before it is fully understood.

11. If you can not say briefly, Do not tell all. Voicemail is not the storytelling. Leaving a long message is an invitation to the entire message skipped. The voicemail optimum is between 8 and 14 seconds.

12. When you leave your phone number, do not leave your website address as well. This will give the person an opportunity to make a decision about you without your call.

13. Leave a PS at the end of your message. A PS is very fast, additional piece of information that will be in contact with the person.

14. Enter the name of the first people at least twice in the message, but the use of their name. Doing so comes across very impersonal.

15. Refer to a mutual acquaintance in your message as a way to connect with the recipient. (Caution: Make sure they think positively of this one!).
