triage nurses are nurses who offer advice to patients by telephone without the benefit of a face to face consultation. They are not intended to diagnose a patient, but rather to assess the situation and provide advice as needed. They can tell if a patient should seek immediate medical treatment, or if the state can not wait until normal business hours. Many triage nurses are also able to go to doctor they are associated. Not only are they able to do during normal office hours, but they are able to do this after hours as well. As they are associated with a medical answering service, they are generally available at any time. Some results of laboratory examination of triage nurses and x-ray for the office, and notify the physician of any information of critical value. Many are responsible for making follow up calls to patients to ensure they are following a prescribed medical treatment, or to see if there were changes in patient condition.
Each nurse is established by a computer programmed to help investigate a complaint by a patient. As a nurse entered the information provided by the patient, the program guide them along different paths to better determine the cause of the complaint. Not only that, but it guides them to the best course of action. The demographics such as age, sex, size and weight are collected and verified by the program as well. The recorded data are used to create an electronic card that can be pulled up any time someone points out in. Some systems have been set up so they connect directly to the doctor's office and add any laboratory and radiographic results in the electronic card.
Many medical practices are able to operate more efficiently and smoothly thanks to the help of a triage nurse.
