Writing a Resume - The Wrong Way!

I am very motivated, energetic and hard working. I have exceptional communication skills both oral and written. I am analytical and organized. I am able to work independently and in teams, I seek a position in a dynamic company like yours please contact me so we can discuss an opportunity.

Is this you? More importantly, is it really nice that you write in your own letter and resume? Well guess what's wrong with that?

At least 90% of all candidates, it will be written something very similar. Everyone claims to be motivated, organized and work hard. I know this for a fact because I have reviewed hundreds of resumes when I was national sales manager for a pharmaceutical company. They all looked the same.

You could very well be highly motivated, organized and all other desired traits that companies want, but if your cover letters and resumes containing generic claims just like the first paragraph above, they are essentially claims without any solid proof.

What you wrote does not make you stand out from the rest of the crowd of candidates. Your chances of getting selected for interviews will be just as thin as any other.

To get out of a huge stack of resumes is not an easy feat, but possible if you know how you differentiate. Successful people who came up through their chosen industries are not simply just lucky to have chosen from hundreds of resumes in the stack. They knew what to write in order to maximize their chances of getting in.

You too can be in this enviable position if you have sufficient knowledge on how to stand out. The best way to obtain this knowledge is to learn from those who have already succeeded in the field that you want to get. They can teach you how to attract the attention of the most important in the hiring process for new positions.

Do not just apply for jobs in the same way as everyone else. Stand Out!
