What's under the hood of Mercedes-Benz Vision C 220 Bluetec

Last week, the division of DaimlerChrysler AG Mercedes-Benz luxury cars was unveiled for the first time the Vision C 220 BLUETEC in front of the European crowd at the recent 77th International Auto Geneve (77th annual Geneva International Motor Show). The Vision C 220 BLUETEC range of vehicles joined the company C-Class models. Apart from the overall look stylish exterior with luxurious and elegant interior of the car, the Vision C 220 BLUETEC, the key is under the hood.

The Mercedes-Benz Vision C 220 BLUETEC is equipped with the cleanest diesel engine in the world, according to the German manufacturer. The 4-cylinder engine is capable of pumping 170 horsepower (125 kW) and produces 295 pounds feet (400 Nm) amount of peak torque. The engine meets the strictest emission standard in the world, including Euro 6 and BIN 5 emissions standard for all 50 states. Even with a low consumption and low exhaust emission, the Mercedes-Benz Vision C 220 BLUETEC still offers impressive handling and performance driving.

DaimlerChrysler AG has developed clean diesel technology BLUTEC reduce diesel nitrogen oxides (NOx). Like all other standard production engines from Mercedes-Benz diesel engine on board the Vision C 220 BLUETEC is a transmission system with four cylinders. The powertrain includes four valves per cylinder, the third generation system common rail direct injection, turbocharger with variable turbine geometry and exhaust gas recirculation. A unit of electronic engine management is also included to monitor the conditions of engine operation, thereby improving the combustion process, provides better fuel economy up to 5.5 liters of diesel by 62 miles (100 km) and most importantly, offers reduced harmful nitrous oxide exhaust emissions. The diesel engine for the Vision C 220 BLUETEC is also equipped with diesel particulate filters and catalytic converters Mercedes pile which helps to further reduce emissions.

The BLUETEC diesel engine has also been included in the district list of 10 best engines for 2007.

How does the work BLUETEC clean diesel technology? Firstly, the system uses a catalytic oxidation converter Mercedes-Benz used to reduce the carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons unburnd (HC) content of the exhaust. Then another called DeNOx catalyst removes oxides with the help of a particulate filter. Finally, selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalytic converter converts nitrogen oxides into nitrogen and other pure water, with the injection of AdBlue, a urea-based material that allows the conversion process.

Meanwhile, according to Mercedes-Benz, they are preparing to offer three classes model with a BLUETEC diesel engine to be deployed on the U.S. market. This includes linking R-Class SUV M-Class 4-door SUV, and the GL-Class full size luxury crossover SUV. )
