Total HD Disc super update on the battle between Blu-ray and HD-DVD
by Arnoldi Bill
Well, we've all watched the fierce battle between the new Blu-ray and HD-DVD technology. If youd like a little refresher whats conspired so far, please refer to my article entitled New CD and DVD Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. This will go through how each disc type functions, why theyre better than normal DVD media, and the differences between the two types. But I digress, this article focuses on the industrys new solution to the problem of having two very similar new products and how they intend to resolve this conflict. The solution is presented as a type of DVD disc amalgamated called Total HD, which owns both Blu-ray and HD-DVD information.
Full HD What is it?
The main difference between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is the distance from the data layer of the disc surface. Both types of discs using a blue laser to read discs. The Blu-ray is located 0.1mm from the disk surface, while the HD DVD data layer is 0.6 mm deep to the surface of discs. The solution offers the Total HD disc has a mirror-like top layer containing the information or Blu-ray Blu-ray can read. But the surface also reflect light through a second layer containing information HD-DVD, if an HD DVD player that can read that information as well. They are also working on a double sided disc that contains information on standard DVD back, which would cover all three different formats. This would allow super DVD movie producers to offer their films in all formats on one disc. Consumers are more likely to buy a movie available in three sizes instead of having to buy a disc in each format. This was the main concern of all film production companies since the beginning of this format war. Ultimately, the only thing that matters is the market value.
What does this mean for consumers?
It seems that all that really comes to DVD players that are offered to consumers. LG Electronics has announced that it has a combo drive in the works, and, better yet, the device will be released very soon. As a consumer, this pretty much solves the problem. Youll have HD-DVD, Blu-ray and standard DVD on one disc you can play in a standard player. So there really will be no problem on the consumer end as soon as the battle is over and standardized. Image now crystalline films, hi-definition played out a DVD player. Soon, everything will be within our reach. )
