Making the most of your broadband connection ...

So you signed for your broadband connection is probably DSL or cable. All connected computers and Web pages load faster than ever! Life is beautiful on the information superhighway, but along comes a second desktop PC or laptop. And now??? Easy! Just go online or down at your local electronics store like Bestbuy or circut city and take a wireless router.

My favorite is the D-Link, Linksys, but Buffalo, and Netgear also do the job quite well. Once your wireless router, it is time to put in place. From your DSL or cable modem, there will be an Ethernet cable that connects to the back of your PC on an Ethernet port. Ignore this, and connect on port "WAN" or "Internet" on the back of your wireless router.

Then there should be another Ethernet cable in the box the router came that plug into a port on the back of the wireless router (D-Link) and the other into the Ethernet port on your PC as it was purchased before router. Follow the installation wizard that guides you through making the connection and ensure the connection against intruders. Also, if you have a laptop chances are you'll see something pop up on your desk and said something like "wireless network detected". Whatever you have you will now be able to share this broadband connection with your family.
