"Mirona" adds flavor to BMW conference hall

Olympic Park Munich is within the building with four cylinders that has helped raise awareness of BMW for many years. This is where the BMW Group gets all the ideas in more than 150 countries, it operates in. Therefore, it is also were BMW 325i parts are conceptualized.

Just in time for the Olympics in 1972, Karl Schwanzer, an architecture professor from Vienna, completed the building. It consists of about four-cylinder 100 meters high which are in transverse position. It has been subjected to complete renovation and modernization measures to 2004-2006. Redefinitions have been supervised by the architectural firm based in Hamburg GmbH ASP Schweger Assoziierte Gesamtplanung.

The decision was also aimed at restructuring the conference rooms. Plans required the installation of numerous TV widescreen monitors in one room, without letting them become a distraction for people with conferences. Thus, to meet the needs of this challenge, a total of 40 square meters of glass specialist SCHOTT Mirona were mounted on the front tables. This surface serves as a mirror, as long as the monitor behind the glass is turned off. But once the monitor is turned on, the glass offers a clear view of the screen.

This effect is achieved by using a very thin, burned in titanium oxide coatings. The unique way in which light is refracted by the reflection and transmission has also played an important role. The optical interference coated mineral glass serves as a mirror, giving a silvery, shiny aesthetic to a dark surface. But suddenly becomes transparent with a light background or backlighting.

Gnter Bauer, CEO of Bauer in Alttting innovativ GmbH, Germany, said Mirona is truly something very special in terms of its light performance, color and processing capabilities. He added that the ability of this glass to appear transparent on the one hand, if it is a reflective surface on the other, allowed them to integrate the monitors in the conference room in a more temperate. Bauer was the company responsible for constructing the tables to use in the conference room.

SCHOTT product manager Stephan Pfaff said that the transformation from functional glass mirror has enormous potential for applications of high quality, especially decorators and interior designers. He further explained that the lighting fixtures, partitions or basic mirrored panels can be transformed into stylish objects at a pressure of a button using Mirona.
